湘南自然薯栽培その３

息子一家が九州から上京したのでスイカを収穫して食味しました。とても大きな赤スイカでちょうどいい熟れ頃でした。半分に切ってその一つを皆で食べました。もう半分は冷蔵庫に保存しました。
My son and his family came to Tokyo from Kyushu, so I picked some watermelons and enjoyed it. It was  very large red watermelons, just ripe enough. I cut it in half and shared one half. Kept the other half in the refrigerator.
 

７月１８日以降１週間降雨がありません。止む無く、自然薯畑の潅水を開始しました。２０リットルの水タンクを三個づつ、近くの水源から４−５回に分けて運搬してジョーロで自然薯の蔓の付け根に潅水します。この作業に２−３時間かかります。早朝の日の出前にやる作業です。早く雨が降って欲しいと思います。
There has been no rain for a week since July 18th. I have no choice but to start watering the wild yam fields. I carry three 20-liter water tanks from a nearby water source in 4-5 trips and use a watering can to water the base of the wild yam vines. This work takes 2-3 hours. I do it early in the morning, before sunrise. I hope it rains soon.

庭の菜園に５月に初めて植えたスイカが大きくなりました。そのうちの一つを収穫して切ったら
すぐに割れて黄色のスイカでした。初物でありとても美味しかったです。７月初めに卵ほどの大きさになったものがカラスに突っつかれて腐ってしまいました。そこで他にも大きくなりつつあるスイカが２個あったのでカラス除けのﾏﾙﾁを布設しました。
The watermelons I planted in my vegetable patch in May have grown big. When I harvested and cut one of them, it split open immediately and turned yellow. It was the first of its kind, and it was delicious. At the beginning of July, one of the watermelons, about the size of an egg, was pecked at by a crow and rotted. So, I laid down mulch to keep the crows away, since there were two other watermelons that were still growing.

自然薯圃場の様子を鳥瞰的に写真を撮りました。まあまあの成長具合だと思います。
このまま順調に育ってほしいと思います。

KSGGガイドグループの恒例の湘南ひらつか七夕祭りガイドを実施しました。例年七夕祭り中の日曜日にガイドを実施していましたが、７月第一日曜日は外国人の方の日本語検定試験が実施されるため、その日を避けて7/5土曜日に実施することにしました。申込者は５４名でしたが猛暑のため欠席者が２０名に上りました。２２か国３４名の方々にパール道路の七夕飾りと八幡山洋館の国際交流サロンの折り紙、書道、着付け他のイベントを楽しんで頂きました。
The KSGG Guide Group held its annual Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival guided tour. Normally, the tour is held on a Sunday during the Tanabata Festival, but because the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for foreigners is held on the first Sunday of July, we decided to avoid that day and hold the tour on Saturday, July 5th. There were 54 applicants, but 20 were absent due to the extreme heat. 34 people from 22 countries enjoyed the Tanabata decorations on Pearl Road and the origami, calligraphy, kimono dressing and other events at the International Exchange Salon in the Hachimanyama Western-style Building.
