Noodle time! (And crazy heat)

Good evening, how’s it going?

It’s been so hot lately. Many people have become ill from heatstroke, so please be careful!

The high heat and humidity seems to take a lot of energy out of my body. I sometimes feel more tired than usual at the end of the day. I’ve also noticed that the people going to work in the early morning seem to be dragging their feet a bit more. This must be a side effect of the hot summer season. Air-conditioning is your friend! I haven’t had to take the train for a while and I can imagine that it’s quite hot and uncomfortable during rush hour.

Today I went out again to find a few things for the apartment. The stores were very busy but thankfully the AC (air conditioning) was working well. After a little shopping and chasing my kids around the store we had a light dinner.

I had hiyashi-chuka for dinner. I really like this dish and think it’s great in the summer time. I love Japanese noodles (especially ramen). It’s nice and cool, the flavour is good and it’s not too heavy. The picture today is of my meal. Do you like this dish too?

Thanks for reading and take care. Don’t be too hot!

Hot and lazy and hungry

Good afternoon. It’s a scorcher isn’t it?

I went to sleep last night with many ideas about what to do today. However, when I awoke I found those ideas replaced by laziness. So I haven’t done much yet. Sometimes that happens on Sunday when I have a day off.

There is a great bakery in the Shimamura grocery store by my place. I decided to go there for lunch today. I haven’t been there for a long time so I used this as an excuse to return (and like I said I’m a bit lazy today). So today’s lunch is (from left to right) curry-pan, a roasted chicken sandwich and a sweet apple pastry. If you haven’t been to this bakery you really should. The bread there is delicious!

Now that the afternoon is here I feel like I should go out somewhere, but what to do? It’s also really hot and humid. I feel like a slug after an hour or so in the sun. What do you do in Hiratsuka on a sunny Sunday? I think a location with AC (air conditioning) is required.

Saturday Sushi

Hello, hello. How have you been?

So I haven’t written anything for a few days, my apologies. I’ve been mostly working and sleeping and it slipped my mind (I forgot). I did have classes this week of course, and had a great time with the students. There is also a new student starting up classes and I’d like to say welcome to him! I’m looking forward to chatting and learning together.

Funglish classes at Mishima will be closed during next week. I hope all the students have a great couple of weeks and I look forward to seeing you again next time. See you in 2 weeks!

Today after work I decided that we should eat out somewhere. We didn’t have much time to think about it so we went to Sushi Ro at Olympic. Sometimes you have to be a little spontaneous. The kids also love going there so it was easy. There was quite a long line up when we arrived but we were determined to have our sushi.

On a side note, there was something strange happening there tonight. I’m not sure why but many people were falling and tripping for no reason. I think it happened 4 or 5 times while we were there, and it was loud every time. I was starting to think maybe there was a ghost or something. I’ve never seen so many people falling in a restaurant.

Anyway, one of my favourites is scallops (hotate). So I made sure to grab a couple of plates of those. What is your favourite?

The first picture is me hiding behind a stack of plates. Yes, we were hungry. The second picture is my precious scallops ready to be eaten.
The third picture is a chocolate ice cream cone. I bought this for my dessert at the food court area at Olympic. My kids wanted to have a taste first so I let them. This is what it looked like after they “tasted” it. The lesson is: never let your children touch your own ice cream before you eat it. Haha

Thanks for checking this blog out. See you later and take care!

Lazy Sunday

Hello everyone! How’s it going?

Today is Sunday and I had a day off finally, woo-hoo! So what did I do?

First thing in the morning there was sleep, glorious sleep. Then when I awoke I made some pancakes for breakfast which my son and I ate. There is one delicious pancake pictured over there. I was going to do a few things but instead I was surfing the net for a while. I was lazy this morning.

Then my son wanted to look at some para-model stuff. His birthday is coming up next month so maybe he’s making some plans about his birthday present. I went with him to a shop in Hiratsuka called Hanza Hobby Shop. It really is a great little place and they have everything hobby related that you could ever want. I recommend this place if you’re looking for something like that. Besides all the plastic models and supplies they also have a lot of stuff for RC cars, planes, helicopters and probably more.

After he was satisfied and he gave me some hints about what he might want, we stopped at the Olympic shopping center. As expected it was quite busy and we spent most of the time in Toys’R’Us (that’s what happens when you go with kids). My son wants to see the new Spiderman movie but we didn’t have time today, maybe next weekend. I’d actually like to see the Avenger’s movie but it won’t be playing in Hiratsuka until next month.

Well, that’s about it so far today. I really need to do a bit of prep work for Funglish classes tonight so I’ll have to stop being lazy and get it done.

Hope you had a nice Sunday. Bye-bye and take care.

Summer Festival

Good evening!

Today was very cool out and it was a welcome change in my opinion. It’s been very hot and humid lately and difficult to sleep at night. I will enjoy the cooler temperatures this weekend but it’s supposed to get hot again throughout next week.

Tonight there was a summer street festival in the Nadeshiko area of Hiratsuka. I went down to check it out. It spanned only a couple of blocks but it was very busy. There were many food stands in front of the businesses and there were also many stands with games for the kids.

It wasn’t too hot so it was fun to get out and mingle in the festival atmosphere. I ate a cucumber on a stick, yakisoba and some inari. Maybe next year I’ll try more things.

I also took a picture of a decoration. The ramen shop Lao-shan had an illuminated dragon sticking out of the window above their shop. It looked pretty cool to me and was a nice addition to the atmosphere.

I hope you enjoy your weekend and thanks for reading!
