湘南自然薯栽培その３

５月末のFarm-visit用の畑のジャガイモが大きくなってきました。EFCの仲間にジャガイモの周りの草取りをして頂きました。
The potatoes in the field designated for the late-May farm visit have grown significantly. Fellow members of the EFC helped weed the area around the potato plants.
 

昨年暮れに植えた玉葱がやっと大きくなってきました。が、今年は小ぶりです。３月初めに植えたジャガイモは通常通り大きくなってきました。もう少し待ってからの収穫を考えています。
The onions I planted late last year have finally grown large, though they are on the small side this year. The potatoes planted in early March are growing normally; Plan to wait a little longer before harvesting them.

3/9に苗床を作成したサツマイモの種イモの芽が５０日かけてやっと出てきました。鳴門金時や紫芋は芽出しが早いようです。今後、紅あずま、栗まさりそしてシルクスイートも芽が出る筈です。今年は多くの種類のサツマイモを沢山植えられる予定です。
It took 50 days for the sweet potato seed tubers—placed in a nursery bed on March 9—to finally sprout. Varieties like Naruto Kintoki and purple sweet potatoes seem to sprout earlier than others; Beniazuma, Kurimasari, and Silk Sweet varieties should be sprouting soon as well. Plan to plant a wide variety of sweet potatoes in large quantities this year.

都内から息子が手伝いに来てくれました。おかげで。３日間で第一圃場の15畦の畔シート埋めを完了することができました。息子に感謝です。
My son came all the way from Tokyo to help me. Thanks to him, we were able to finish burying the 15 ridges of the first field with levees in three days. I'm so grateful to my son.

4/17から第二圃場始めた畔シート埋めですが、やっと１６畦分の作業が完了しました。１畦あたり約1.5時間要します。まずはホッとしました。
Started burying the ridge sheets in the second field on April 17th, and finally finished the work for 16 rows. It takes about 1.5 hours per row. Relieved for now.
